PRECISION SHEET METAL - GENERAL SHOP HELP



Status: Part-Time, up to 28 hours/week

Preferred Schedule: 1st shift, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Days flexible


The Brittany Company, a Precision Sheet Metal Fabricator since 1968, is seeking an additional part-time team member to support our production activities at our Wallingford, CT facility.


POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of senior staff and working from verbal/written instructions and drawings General Shop Help is responsible operating equipment to insert hardware, grind/deburr, cut and assemble metal parts. Equipment to be operated by General Shop Help includes: belt sanders, power/hand grinding tools, hardware insertion presses, CNC fabricating machinery, drill presses and spot welders. The employee will confirm that fabricated parts are accurate by checking work against blueprints and by using measurement/inspection equipment and gauges. All work must be completed in a manner such that the quality level is high and consistent. The General Shop Help position will keep work areas clean, and ensure that safety and quality standards are met at all times.

  • DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • *Safely operate metal fabricating machinery/equipment.
  • *Remove burrs and sharp edges from parts.
  • *Correctly insert hardware using hardware insertion presses.
  • *Drill, countersink and tap fabricated parts.
  • *Spot weld/assemble fabricated parts.
  • *Read and interpret blueprints and job notes.
  • *Check work against customer blueprints to confirm accuracy.
  • *Use/read measurement equipment and gauges.
  • *Assist with loading and unloading material and finished goods. Operate pallet jack. *Accurately count, clean, sort and pack cartons or pallets for shipment.
  • *Performs other tasks/responsibilities as required to support business operations.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
*Good verbal communication skills.
*Ability to read and interpret technical information on blueprints and job notes.
*Ability to check own work against blueprints.
*Properly use and read measurement/inspection equipment and gauges.
*Physical ability: pushing, pulling, standing for long periods of time, manual dexterity, and visual acuity. Ability to lift over 70 lbs.
*Problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude required.
*Must be able to work independently, as well as, work well with others.
*Mig/Tig welding a plus, but not required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

*High School diploma or GED required.

*Technical school certificate or 2-year college degree strongly preferred.

*1 - 2 years of experience working in manufacturing preferred.
